I wrote this ritual a couple years ago for a COC HPTs daughter’s elevation as an acolyte of Anubis since at that time she was 17 years old. I was initiated as a High Priest of the Cult of Anubis decades ago by an Afrikan woman from Philly. I was hoping the daughter when 18 would pursue it further because she had a fascination with Anubis and seemed to have a past life as an embalmer’s assistant to the Anubis Priest who was I. But that was not to be… So here is the ritual i wrote drawing from many sources and i, her mom, and the acolyte performed the ritual. For the ritual she made an Anubis mask out of paper mache and painted it and it turned out pretty well. We toether also made a boat load of Anubis incense as per the formula below, which i still have a big jar of to burn to him. Anubis is to me the tantricke mate of Bastet who is of course the totem of the Coven of the Catta. Enjoy.

“Opener of Ways.” Egyptian jackal god. Wepwawet had a dual roe as a god of war and of the funerary cult ad could be said to “open the way” both for the armies for the Pharaoh and for the spirits of the dead. He originated as a god of Upper Egypt, but his cult had spread throughout Egypt by the time of the Old Kingdom. Depicted as a jackal or in human form with the head of a jackal, often holding the ‘shedshed,’ a standard which led the Pharaoh to victory in war and on which the Pharaoh was said to ascend into the sky after death. Despite his origin in Upper Egypt, in inscription said that he was born in the sanctuary of the goddess Wadjet at Buto in the Nile delta. Another inscription identified him with Horus and thus extension with Pharaoh. Wepwawet also symbolized the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. In his capacity as a funerary deity, he used his adze to break open the mouth of the deceased in the “Opening of the Mouth” ceremony, which ensured that the person would have the enjoyment of all his faculties in the afterlife. At Abydos, the ‘procession of Wepwawet’ opened the mysteries of Osiris as a god of the dead.

Lee Priest of Anpu – Thoth Hrumachis Nehebkau

Snake = Djdft
Thoth (Thot, Thout; Egyptian Djhowtey, Djehuti, Tehuti, Zehuti) Egyptian moon god. Over time, he developed as a god of wisdom, and came to be associated with magic, music, medicine, geometry, drawing, writing, surveying and astronomy. He was the inventor of the spoken and written word; credited with the invention of geometry, medicine and astronomy. He was also the scribe of the gods and patron of all scribes. Thoth was the measurer of the earth and counter of the stars as well as keeper and recorder of all knowledge including the Book of the Dead. Thoth was generally depicted in human form with the head of an ibis, wearing a crown consisting of a crescent moon topped by a moon disk. He could also be depicted as an ibis or a baboon which were both sacred to him. His principal sanctuary was at Hermopolis (Khmunu) in the Nile delta region. Thoth served as an arbiter among the gods. In the Osirian legend, he protected Isis during her pregnancy and healed her son Horus when Set tore out his left eye. Thoth was later identified with the Greek god Hermes in the form of Hermes Trismegistos – “Hermes the thrice great” – in which form he remained popular in medieval magic and alchemy. Thoth was also a god of the underworld, where he served as a clerk who recorded the judgments on the souls of the dead. Alternatively, it was Thoth himself who weighed the hearts of the dead against the Feather of Truth in the Hall of the Two Truths.
Hrumachis / Harmachis (Egyptian Har-em-akhet)
“Horus upon the Horizon” also known as Her-Akhety, “Horus of the Two Horizons.” A manifestation of Horus where he figures as a sun god (identified with Re-Her-Akhety). Later the sphinx of Giza represented “Horus of the Morning Sun” because it/he looked toward the eastern horizon.
Nehebkau (Nehebu-Kau, Nehebkhau)
Egyptian snake god of the underworld. Represented either as a serpent with human arms and legs or with a man’s body, holding the eye of Horus. In the Pyramid Texts, he was said to be the son of the scorpion goddess Serket. Another tradition made him the son of the earth god Geb and the harvest goddess Renenutet. According to legend, he was tamed by the sun god Ra and thenceforth acted as the god’s servant, riding with him in the sun barque. His name was invoked in spells providing protection against snake bites and scorpion stings. Nehebkau protected the dead Pharaoh in the afterlife.
Snake djdft – The snake had mixed popularity in Egypt because snakes caused the danger and the cure to the venom. Apep was a snake-demon of the underworld, who tried to stop Ra on his nightly journey through the land of the west. The four primeval goddesses of the Ogdoad – Naunet (water), Amaunet (invisibility), Hauhet (infinity) and Kauket (darkness) – were also snake goddesses. There was a snake god called Nehebkaw who was depicted as a man with the head and tail of a snake.

5. And after each of these invocations thou shalt give the sign of silence, and afterward thou shalt perform the adoration that is taught thee by thy Superior. And then do thou compose Thyself to holy meditation.
6. Also it is better if in these adorations thou assume the God-form of Whom thou adorest, as if thou didst unite with Him in the adoration of That which is beyond Him.
7. Thus shalt thou ever be mindful of the Great Work which thou hast undertaken to perform, and thus shalt thou be strengthened to pursue it unto the attainment of the Stone of the Wise, the Summum Bonum, True Wisdom and Perfect Happiness.
Prayer to Tahuti (Liber ISRAFEL – Aleister Crowley)
0. The Temple being in darkness, and the Speaker ascended into his place let him begin by a ritual of the Enterer, as followeth.

God of young kingly power and of embalming
I call on Thee: Anpu and I invoke Thee: Anubis, the Royal Child.
O Thou who art called Sekhem Em Pet, Thou are also known Am Ut, the “Dweller in the chamber of embalmment.” And as the watcher in the place of purification wherein rested the chest containing the remains of Osiris Thou art also called Khent Sehet, the “Governor of the Hall of the god;” and as the god of the funeral mountain, Thou art also called “Tep-Tu-f,” “he who is upon his hill” and Khent Sehet, “Governor of the Hall of the god.”
Thou art the guardian of the necropolis; “the one who is on top of his mountain,” “lord of the holy land”, the Memphite necropolis; Ra-setaw,” the “lord of the cave;” the tomb.
O Thou, Jackal-headed God; son of Nephthys and Set, whose symbols are the ox-hide hanging from a pole, embalming equipment, flail, and flags; Thou art the Apuat, the opener of the ways; to the roads of the North and also the personification of the Summer Solstice.
I invoke the Anpu; Anubis, Thou who supervises the embalming of bodies and receives the mummy into the tomb, performing the ‘Opening of the Mouth’ ceremony and conducts the soul in the Field of Celestial Offerings. It is you who monitors the Scales of Truth to protect the dead from deception and eternal death; the dreaded Second Death.
I invoke Thee Anpu; Anubis, Thou whose duty it is to examine the tongue of the Great Balance, and to take care that the beam is exactly horizontal.
I invoke Thee Anpu; Anubis, Thou who produces the heart of the deceased. Make my thighs firm so that I may stand upon them.
O Thou “Dweller in the chamber of embalmment,” I have washed myself in the water wherein Thou hast washed when Thou hast performed the office of the embalmer and bandager;
O Thou “Governor of the Hall of the god” who art the watcher in the place of purification wherein rested the chest containing the remains of Osiris;
O Thou who is “he who is upon his hill,” Thou hast set thee in order, and Thou hast fastened for thee mine own swathings.
It is by you, Anubis that I understand the horizontal circle, which divides the invisible, and to which is given the name of Isis; and is the circle that equally touches upon the confines of both light and darkness. It is She that is also called Sothis, the Dog-Star; your star! Be ever vigilant and watchful by day as well as by night.
There then, Thou art Time; that which begets all things out of itself, bearing them within itself, as it were in a womb. And therein, Thou art Anubis of the Superior World; the emblem of purity and brightness and also, Thou art Hermanubis of the Inferior World, whose color is Saffron, expressive of that mixture and variety which is to be found in these lower regions.”
As lord of the underworld, Thou art the father of Kebechet, the goddess of the purification of the bodily organs that are placed in canopic jars during mummification.
And as lord of the underworld, Thou art its gatekeeper and the Guardian of the veil (of death). I beseech Thee: Protect my soul in its journey there that my soul may not be lost.
Thou art He who belongs to the mummy wrappings, and He who is before the divine [embalming] booth. Deliver thou thy scribe, whose word is Truth, from the Watchers, who carry murderous knives, who possess cruel fingers, and who would slay those who are in the following of Osiris. May these Watchers never gain the mastery over me, and may I never fall under their knives!

Thou art Anubis, “Jackal Ruler of the Bows,” who has triumphed over the nine bows; the hostile forces of the Underworld.
Thou art Anubis; patron God of Magick, who forsees human destiny and who is the announcer of death.
Thou art Anubis; the keeper of poisons and medicines, who provided unguents and rare herbs to help Isis and Nephthys with the embalming of Osiris and who protects the dead from Ammut, the ‘Devourer’.
Thou art Anubis; who monitors the Scales of Truth to protect the dead from deception and eternal death. Grant me initiation into the Hall of Truth as I stand here in ante-chamber of thy Temple, stripped and blind-folded and groping for the entrance of the Hall. Let me be found, reclothed and anointed in the presence of the Initiated.
“Thou art then found, but what are the Pass-words?”
The are the names of the Seven Spirits who are the protectors of the dead body of Osiris:
Kesta, Hapi, Tuamutef, Qebhsenuf, Maa-atef, Kheribeqef and Heru-khenti-en-ariti; and these are the Seven Spirits who are the protectors of the dead body of Osiris: Netcheh-netcheh, Aatqetqet, Nertanef-besef-khenti-hehf, Aq-her-ami-unnut-f, Tesher-ariti-ami-Het-anes, Ubes-her-per-em-khetkhet, and Maaem-kerh-annef-hru.
“Pass on, thou knowest it.”
My lips are the lips of Anpu.
“Pass on, thou knowest it.”
Mine own throat is the throat of Anubis.
“Pass on, thou knowest it.”
And mine own face is like that of Anubis.
I am Anubis the Dweller in the Mummy Chamber, Governor of the Divine House who layeth his hands upon the lord of life, the scribe, the draughtsman of Ptah, Nebseni, the lord of fealty, begotten of the scribe and mason Thena, born of the lady of the house Mut-rest, whose word is Truth and devoting himself to thee as thine guardian; it is I Anpu who saith: Homage to thee, thou happy one, lord! Thou seest the Wedjat; the Eye of Horus. Ptah-Sokar hath bound thee up. Anubis hath exalted thee. Shu hath raised thee up, O Beautiful Face, thou governor of eternity. Thou hast thine eye, O scribe, lord of fealty, and it is beautiful. Thy right eye is like the Sektet Boat, thy left eye is like the Atet Boat. Thine eyebrows are fair to see in the presence of the Company of the Gods. Thy brow is under the protection of Anubis, and thy head and face, O beautiful one, are before the holy Hawk. Thy fingers have been established by thy scribe’s craft in the presence of the Lord of Khemenu, Thoth, who hath bestowed upon thee the knowledge of the speech of the holy books. Thy beard is beautiful in the sight of Ptah-Sokar, and thou, O scribe, thou lord of fealty, art beautiful before the Great Company of the Gods. The Great God looketh upon thee, and he leadeth thee along the path of happiness. Sepulchral meals are bestowed upon thee, and he overthroweth for thee thine enemies, setting them under thy feet in the presence of the Great Company of the Gods who dwell in the House of the Great Aged One which is in Anu.
Prayer to Anubis
O, Anubis! Mighty Anubis!
[Name] has entered the gates to your realm,
And we ask that you deem him worthy.
His spirit is a brave one,
And his soul is an honorable one.
O, Anubis! Mighty Anubis!
As you take his measure,
And weigh his heart as he stands before you,
Know that he was loved by many,
And will be remembered by all.
Anubis, welcome [Name] and deem him worthy of entrance,
That he may walk through your realm,
And be under your protection for all eternity.
O, Anubis! Mighty Anubis!
Watch over [Name] as he bows before you.
Evoking Nephthys

Nephthys of the moon,
You who are all that ever was,
All that is, and all that shall be:
Come, veiled Queen of Night!
Come as the scent of the myrrh charging my circle,
With love and magic.
Do descend upon my circle, I pray
O blessed Nephthys.

As I read, my girlfriend used a crow feather dipped in myrrh to draw Nephthys’ hieroglyph on a piece of paper.

O Nephthys, goddess who gives the Pharaoh
The power to see that which is hidden by moonlight,
Illuminate my righteous path, and guide me
Away from negative energies, ignorance and traps.
As the waning moon takes away the moons light,
Please bless me with your guidance,
And remove negativity from my path on these nights.
I am most grateful for the love, compassion,
And guidance you provide.

And illuminate that which is hidden by moonlight?

Imseti, the human-headed god representing the south, whose jar contained the liver and was protected by the goddess Isis.
Qebehsenuef, the falcon-headed god representing the west, whose jar contained the intestines and was protected by the goddess Selket.
Take out heart and weigh against feather of Maat / Truth

Kebechet, Kabechet,Kebehut,Qebhut

Depicted as a Snake with a body of Stars. Perhaps the Milky Way, which was seen as the celestial Nile. Goddess’s of Purification through water. Fresh, Pure, and Sacred Water. Water is life so we could also say she is the Goddess of the Water of Life. Water refreshed the Ka while the body waited to be mummified. But we can go beyond that and point out water refresh’s the body and mind, plus we need it to live. So drink lots of water, I do. Remember her attribute is that of a snake, which shows her connection to water. (because a snakes movement is fluid) This doesn’t mean she’s a snake. (See attribute’s essay)

Manfred Lurker in The Gods and Symbols of Ancient Egypt, pretty much say’s the above, but he add’s that water was seen as part of the female symbolism. Water also provided Divine Grace.
So we can see that Kebechet is a Goddess of Purification, yet not only does she use Water, but Incense as seen in the above text. So before a ritual or other magical /religious undertaking we would invoke Kebechet, while taking a ritual bath/shower and while cleansing the sacred space. I am some what amazed that a number of Anpu’s ritual require the use of Pure water as do his offerings.

Here’s a passage from the Pyramid text that deals with Kebechet:

The Goddess Qebhut the daughter of Anpu, findeth this Pepi, and she goeth to meet him with the Four Nemset Vases. She refreshed the breast of the Great God on the day of his watch, and she refresheth the breast of this Pepi with life.
