Here are some beautiful pictures and poems from the Melittabenu blog on the Spring Equinox today. Enjoy!
Blessed Spring Equinox to all you witches and pagans in the northern hemisphere, and Blessed Autumnal Equinox to all of you in the southern hemisphere!
Here in the northern temperate zone in the upper Appalachians in the USA it is not feeling or looking much like Spring as we had 4 inches of snow a couple days ago, but with the increasing height of the Sun it is burning off fast. Nothing much is green yet except for the crocuses, skunk cabbage and an occasional wild garlic. In my view i think of the Spring Equinox (like all the quarterly markers) as being a celestial event, but it down not sink down to real Spring on the Earthly plane until May Day (and the other cross quarter days). But that is because of our latitude of course, the same latitude approximately where our witchcraft came from in Europe.
In our Coven of the Catta we sometimes also referred to this as Lady Day, which is a Catholic holiday on March 25th commemorating the Feast of the Annunciation (when the Archangel Gabriel tells Mary that she is knocked up with holy seed). Mike Nichols at his website wrote a great piece on the meaning of Lady Day too at this link. I think a lot of our Sabbat names and even rituals came from the Catholic liturgy re-written by witches in France in the early 1800s.
Here is a good thought for the day below, and a picture of what represents to me Persephone coming up out of the underworld with her sprig of flowers. All pics in this post are from various Tumblr websites. Enjoy and Blessed Be!
You must be over 18 to view image below because
it shows one bare female breast. Shocking!
