Serpent Priestess

Yesterday I found this blog called The Black Stone Hermitage –  A Dark Pagan Sanctuary and Temple Space which has a page called The Way of the Serpent which this quote about its content:

“The vision:  a place for Serpent worship and study of the esoteric serpentine mysteries in their many forms. What follows is a hodgepodge collection of quotations, links, photos, and other resources I have compiled on serpent wisdom, which is an element of the Black Stone Hermitage vision.  This page is also a tribute to my Serpent Muse.”

Since Naga puja is part of my Tibetan Buddhist and Shaivite practice I have enjoyed these quotes and pictures a lot, so link to it above. She also has a lot of good links and one particular one I liked called Snake worship – Naga cult in Tamil Nadu, India which has a lot of great naga pictures in it.

I have also interspersed through my post some of my favorite naga/serpent pictures (hard to pick out of all i have) and at the end two crude drawings i did years ago. Enjoy.

Pentagram Hex Sign from Rob Chapman

Here’s another good Powwow website by Rob Chapman called PA Dutch Braucherei – Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Magic and Healing and here is his Blog. Lots of good stuff in there for sure, and I think he is a local guy from up north of here. Enjoy!

A High Priestess in our Coven just turned me on to Cory and Laine’s website New World Witchery which is excellent! They also have a blog. These are just chocked full of great information on Hoodoo, Braucherei, Powwow, Mountain Magic, Native American Magic, Voodoo, and other Magickal systems, and they have some Podcasts you can easily download. I found the best way to go through their blog was to go to their Resources page and then their Magical Systems and other resources links where everything is easily perused by subject. I have barely scratched the surface of all the well written articles and links here and am sure this will entertain, educate and enlighten you and me for days. Enjoy!

Witchcraft Temple 360*

I am blessed to have two small extra bedrooms in which I have been able to arrange in one room a temple as a Temple for Witchcraft and Vodoun, and in the other a Temple for Buddhism, Shaivism and Naga puja.

If you want to clear your floor space for single or group rituals I always say to build upwards. Years ago i had those pre-fab bookcases you buy  and put together yourself, so when i first moved in here i tore those apart and used the long vertical pieces for wall shelving and the shorter horizontal shelves to screw onto my window sills to make them larger. I also have metal tables I can drag to the center of the temple if i need more altar space for rituals requiring more tools, like a place to put a cauldron or two and still elevate it for practical use.

A couple months ago I separated and rearranged temple and altar statues and tools into these separate rooms and this is the result for the Witchcraft Temple with pictures displayed going deosil. Unfortunately on this new pc i do not have the better photo editing software i used to have since Freeware has not caught up with Windows 8, so this is the best i could edit them. Note all photos copyright 2013 GLHoke. Enjoy!

Reblog – “A Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow” – from The Life and Times of a Forever Witch blog

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This depressing winter, which today shows a slight hint of passing, I have looked to posts by fellow bloggers for inspiration, and found this poem posted on The Life and Times of a Forever Witch blog entitled A Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to be inspiring and enlivening. Enjoy:

A Psalm of Life

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou are, to dust thou returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, – act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sand of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait.

Fundamentalist Christians Targeting My Blog Saying They “Like” It

wicked witch of the west

I noticed a few months ago that some blogster “liked” my post, so i went to his blog and it was a fundamentalist Christian site. Now why would they “like” my site except to get their Gravatar onto mine so when you all out of curiosity go to their site you will realize your sins of being witches and magickians and covert to their religion? After all aren’t we all evil Devil worshiping Satanists and going to hell, so they have to “save” us?

Of course we can police comments made on our blogs to decide if we want to let them through or not, but as far as i can see we cannot block people from “liking” our posts. So my first approach was the direct one and i went to his blog and posted a comment (which has never been approved) asking him to stop and telling him i considered it a type of harassment, kinda like the Jehovah’s Witnesses coming to my door, on my private property, and leaving their Watchtower magazines. Curiously now another fundie has started “liking” my posts so i guess the word is out who to target. I am not going to list their blogs since their Gravatars do no have links to their blogs but i can only see those in my notifications emails, and i am not trying to blacklist them publicly. I do not think they can see everyone who visits their site to track them back, and i always check out what someone is into before i approve it. But I think what they are doing is going through the WP topics search and trying to find witches or anyone else who is not of their religion to target.

Now i have nothing against Jesus and Mary, just Paul and everyone after him, and I even have an altar with statues of their sacred heart forms on it. I have posted some positive things about how i relate to those deities, and yes i have posted some satiric things also, but i make fun of all religions, even my own. But i believe in Live And Let Live and Freedom of Speech and Religion, and I do not like this.

So i posted a comment on the second fundie’s site, which goes though without her needing to approve it, asking her to stop also. And just this second i got an email regarding her response to another comment on that page and i see my comment was deleted. Regarding the first guy i went to the WP forum and someone suggested reporting their site, which i reported that blog as “abusive” and the reason why. Regarding the second blogster i will give her a second chance but if she “likes” another of my posts i shall report her also. So we shall see what WP does to protect us from this kind of sly handed “tract handout” footprint method on our blogs.

I blog because i like to share my ideas and share others posts but i guess because of the nature of my blogs i should have seen this coming, not that i can do anything except what i have done so far, and posting this “heads up” to my fellow bloggers.

Has anyone else had problems like this?

Poem by Eric Angus Jeffords – “Your Lord is not my Shepherd”

I found this poem by Eric Angus Jeffords entitled Your lord is not my Shepherd at his By Blood and Bone, By Staff and Stone blog and enjoyed it enough to share it with you. I have asked his permission to reblog it here.

Your lord is not my Shepherd

No one is my shepherd, for I am not a sheep.
I do not want, because I sustain myself.
I shall lie wherever I please,
And swim through murky ponds and raging rivers.
I shall find the pieces of my own soul,
And heal them through my own power.
I shall take the Middle, Crooked Road.
It is long and winding,
But at least I am not scratching myself with thorns
For someone else’s safety.
Oft do I walk through the valley of Death,
I do not fear it, I am one with it.
My staff and sword protect me,
For I have forged them myself.
I prepare my own table,
To celebrate my friends, and curse my enemies.
I anoint myself with poisonous medicine,
And fly forth in Spirit.
My cup is bottomless,
For there is always something to Know!
Power and humility shall be with me always,
And through my devotion
I shall dwell in the Kingdom of the Red Goat
For all eternity.

Nema!

YT video – Epigenetics – The Ghost In Your Genes

I saw this fascinating video on YT last night about how in the study of Epigenetics what one’s ancestors went through  or were exposed to in their lives may be encoded in your genes. To quote from the YT site:

“Biology stands on the brink of a shift in the understanding of inheritance. The discovery of epigenetics — hidden influences upon the genes — could affect every aspect of our lives.
At the heart of this new field is a simple but contentious idea — that genes have a ‘memory’. That the lives of your grandparents — the air they breathed, the food they ate, even the things they saw — can directly affect you, decades later, despite your never experiencing these things yourself. And that what you do in your lifetime could in turn affect your grandchildren.”

So maybe what this means for those of us who feel we were “born a witch” or whatever is that we really DO carry these genes from our ancestors whether from Europe or Africa or whatever our genetic backgrounds are!

Reblog – “How to Survive a Fallow Time” from the Mystical Bewilderment blog

Archival Pics from the Dust Bowl

I don’t know about the rest of you stuck in the cold northern part of the Northern Hemisphere, but I am about sick of winter! And I am in a “Fallow Time” regarding my gods and witchcraft and magicke. But since Nature is fallow then i guess we get that way too for a reason. My teacher always told us to not try any magicke between Yule and Candlemass because it is a fallow time (not her words). And it does not help to be ill and having a huge medical decision to make coming up with no one answering any of my questions at the medical center for weeks, and taking a med that has a down affect too. I go through the motions with my meditations and rituals, but my power cord seems a bit frayed right now, lol. I need to cheer up and see a little green outside and a little hope inside!

Anyway, yesterday i found the Mystical Bewilderment blog, which is Kemetic and also has some good Voodoo posts on it, and found her (?) post on How To Survive a Fallow Time which helped me a lot. There are also a lot of good links on the post from The Kemetic Roundtable not all of which i have read yet but they are on the same subject.

So i hope this helps some of you as it may help me. Blessings.

Addendum – Even though it is still cold and windy out i went for a short walk out back and in a swampy area saw the first buds of skunk cabbage and some watercress growing. Yea!
