I found this 3 part video series called Thailand Black Magic which is pretty interesting, especially since they are using some of the same kind of methods also used in Witchcraft, Hoodoo, Voodoo and various other native practices around the world.
The videos are in Thai with English subtitles. In Part 1 (embedded below) you can see the occult priest using the traditional wax poppet inserting hair and nail clippings from the client and her wayward husband. I like how they blame “that vixen” who is trying to take him away rather than blaming the husband himself for his loose ways, obviously male chauvinism at work.
In Part 2 the ritual continues with some explanations from “scholars” and other occultists.
And in Part 3 I found the most shocking practice of a priest blessing some “nightclub workers” with a “pleasure charm” so they can “please more customers” by using cosmetics blessed by him, and by an even more nefarious practice which truly is necromantic.
Now I am NOT criticizing the people of Thailand for their religious, spiritual and magical beliefs. I love Thai Buddhism, especially their art work, and I am sure there are many holy monks and nuns who practice the Way of the Buddha. We all live in the culture we live in, and magic does work for those who believe in it within that culture. But I am sure there is also a “contribution to the temple” and such going on and do find it rather odd that Buddhist priests are part of this business which has probably been going on for hundreds of years if not longer in some form. And I guess at least the white magic part of this is no different from a Catholic priest telling a couple to bury a saint statue upside down in the yard to sell the house.
